Alan Kuczynski | sculpture, 2016
The sculptor wanted the audience to look at the cricketer, not just as a person holding a bat, but to think about the emotion that is involved when he stands at the wicket. However he has left it up to the audience to decide on the emotion that they feel is appropriate.
Some have said that he empties himself of everything in readiness for the ball.
Others think that it represents the emptiness that the cricket feels when he is caught out.
Whilst some see it purely as a unique creative execution of a cricketer at the pitch, with no deeper meaning than that.
